Naomi Ward - Atlantis Science Expedition Journal - Live July 30 to August 23, 2004

Journal Entries:

Wednesday August 11, 2004 13:57:03 GMT, 6:53am shiptime
Welker Seamount, 55N 140W

Just a quick message, pre-dive. In about 45 minutes I will be climbing into Alvin and diving to 3,000 feet. I've been up since 5:30, am dressed warmly, and have had my breakfast early today. I've dropped off my gear (clipboard and data sheets, more sweaters, extra pair of socks, chocolate) in the Alvin hanger.

It looks like it's going to be a clear-weather launch. Just before dawn the clouds were all gathered around the horizon, with the sky above clear and a thin crescent moon. Seas are calm.

Am too fidgety now to write more, but will write again upon my return to the surface late this afternoon. The email won't get sent out til 7pm Pacific Time, so most of you will hear from me tomorrow morning.

Adieu,
Naomi
