A figure lies imobile on the ground, cast in the light of a video projection; blue sky envelopes the gallery and clouds roll across the walls. Scattered about the figure are pages from Descartes Discours de la méthode, the shape of a feather cut from the face of each page. The figure is covered with speakers emanating the sounds of machines, transport vehicles, and electronic communications. A dull heartbeat fills the gallery. Cables strung from the speakers gather at the belly of the figure and wind away to a incubator some 15 feet from the figure. Inside the incubator a monitor is built into the bed of the machine - the sky and clouds roll across the screen illuminating the incubator in brilliant blue.
An brightly illuminated etched mirror displaying Icarus on a maze fades, and is illuminated from within - the maze behind the figure comes to life displaying an operating theater; an insision is made and skin is peeled away.
A column of screens oposite the mirror flashes back and forth between images of the sky, and the operating theater, as bone is cut away and titanium cables are sewn into ribs, and pulled taught, subtly changing the shape of the figures torso.
The sky fades, the gallery darkens and the heartbeat ceases. All that is left is the cacophony of machines, the sound rises and blends to end appruptly in the screech of a modem, and the cry of an ekg flatline warning.
